Frequently Asked Questions

So what actually happens when I come in for treatment?

When you come in for your first treatment, David will take a history of your current symptoms and previous medical details. An assessment is made on how your joints are moving and how your muscles and other tissues feel. The third part of the session involves the treatment, which can include soft-tissue massage, gentle but specific movements of the joints and manipulation. The final step in your treatment is management. This may involve advice to apply ice or heat and prescription of stretches and/or a strengthening program to alleviate your symptoms now and maintain optimal health in the long term.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No, you don't need a formal referral from your Doctor although this does happen sometimes. David will be happy to work in conjunction with your doctor or other medical professionals to achieve the best outcome for you.

Can I claim treatment on my private health insurance?

Yes, but only if you have 'extras' cover. Some insurers have Osteopathy included in their standard extras policy and others include it in a higher extras category. The refund from the insurer also varies so best to directly contact your insurer or check your policy.

What happens if I had the injury at work or as the result of a motor vehicle accident?

David is registered with both TAC and WorkSafe (Workcover) and will be able to assist you with your recovery from these injuries.

How long will I need treatment for?

Osteopathic treatment is solely based on each patient's individual needs. In general, acute conditions may require 2-4 treatments. Chronic or long term conditions may require more treatments initially and then maintenance treatment every couple of months. This is determined by your body's individual response to treatment and ongoing needs.
